We are trying to prevent hateful comments online and promote nicer attitudes toward others and creating a safer space online. This is important because the use of technology these days is unavoidable and people deserve to feel safe online.
Our idea is an AI program that stops rude and negative comments prior to the other person receiving them. Companies can choose to include it on their laptop or website like Facebook and Instagram. The AI detects the comments in between it being sent and received. It detects and comes up with a pop up notification to tell you that the message is an infringement. By using Gen Z and Gen Alpha language, we think young people will respond better than the current warnings that may come up when comments are reported. The different levels range from black (U OK dude?) to yellow (Mid). Positive comments get positive pop-ups such as “Yass Queen” to “Go Bestie” to “Slay”.
At the end of the year, the user will get a summary of their “Vibes” which says how much of each level they have shared. If zero “mid”, “oof”, “dude what” or “U OK man?”, then the user gets rewarded with customisable colours and faces on the pop-up. If there is a post with a negative comment, that feature will automatically be retracted.
Our aim is to empower people to use positive attitudes online towards others and start to eradicate harmful messages and comments. With ‘Vibe Checker’ people who have previously suffered from online abuse and hateful comments will feel happier and safer online.
