By creating a barrier that shields crops from damage, the system could help farmers grow food more efficiently and reduce the amount of produce lost before it reaches consumers. As a first step toward demonstrating their concept, the team plans to develop a small 3D-printed dome prototype that can sit over a single plant to protect it from insects and improve its growth.
