This project focuses on encouraging greater use of public transport by improving the design and experience of local bus stops. The idea is to transform bus stops into safe, comfortable and welcoming spaces that people enjoy using, which could encourage more residents to choose buses over cars.
Upgraded bus stops could include improved shelter, seating and design features that allow them to function as small community gathering points. By making public transport more appealing, the project aims to reduce car use, lower greenhouse gas emissions and create more opportunities for social connection within neighbourhoods.
The team hopes to begin locally by advocating for improvements to a bus stop in the Lucas area. They plan to reach out to community partners and promote public transport through letters, videos and awareness campaigns that highlight the environmental and social benefits of bus travel.
