There are approximately 50-75 trillion pieces of plastic and microplastics currently in the ocean. The Ocean Hub will aim to reduce this number. The Ocean Hub will be a pontoon which will be located in the Great Barrier Reef, that will run tours and educate people on the impact of human behaviour, whilst also seeking to clean up the ocean.
To trial this idea, the team will run a community beach clean up on the Gold Coast called Phil the Fish. A wire fish sculpture will be filled up with the rubbish found on the beaches, and then it will be made into an installation for the community the signify the amount of waste polluting the oceans and beaches on the Gold Coast.
