Unsustainable power is a massive drain on our planet, and transport is Australia’s second largest source of greenhouse gas emissions. The need for both power and transport is not going away, so this team developed a clever green solution that harnesses the inevitability of both.
Around ~200 billion square meters or 0.15% of the earth’s total land is roads. This team want to embed solar panels within roads, converting solar energy into power. This won’t impact how the roads are currently used, however the influx of new sustainable power would provide energy to accommodate the switch to green electric cars.
