Food inequality and access to and knowledge of nutritious food is a pressing issue in our society. That’s where Food Fest comes in. Food Fest will be a festival for all, in which people can come and be provided meals and it will also offer cooking classes, an opportunity to learn how to cook cheap, healthy meals.
Food Fest will be a safe space and a celebration for anyone to attend. In order to make it feel relaxed and comfortable for attendees there will be local musicians playing and there will be fresh meals provided by local cafes and restaurants.
To trial this idea, the team will run a program in collaboration with a chef, to run cooking classes for those who want to understand how to create nutritious meals at a low cost. The program will be offered as a class to Year 7 students at Mount Rowan Secondary College. This will allow participants to also have an understanding of the importance of fueling your body with healthy, fresh food.
